Professional Background

I grew up in western Maine. In college I studied Classics, graduating from Dickinson College in 2004. In 2006, I earned a Master’s degree at Harvard Divinity School with a focus on the psychology of religion. In 2011, I completed my PhD in Counseling Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University with a research focus on the therapeutic alliance. My internship was at the University of Pennsylvania Counseling and Psychological Services and my postdoctoral hours were completed at Williams College Psychological Counseling Services. Before returning to Maine, I worked as an associate professor at a public liberal arts college in Massachusetts, as a staff psychotherapist at Williams College and at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Eugene, Oregon where I also taught graduate students at the University of Oregon. In my downtime, I can be found fishing, hiking, cooking and reading.
